About Nabeela

Nabeela Syed is running for re-election to continue serving as the State Representative for the 51st District, which includes the parts of Palatine, Inverness, Barrington, Hoffman Estates, Rolling Meadows, Lake Zurich, Hawthorn Woods, Kildeer, Deer Park, Vernon Hills, Long Grove, and more.

As a Palatine native and member of the Illinois General Assembly, Nabeela has been an advocate for the issues most important to the 51st District, including healthcare, violence prevention, education, and taxes.

In her first legislative session, Nabeela passed 14 bills into law, including a bill that will ban the practice of price-gouging generic and off-patent prescription drugs. As an organ donor, Nabeela also worked to pass legislation that would provide proper time off for organ donors to recover before returning to work.

Nabeela continues to prioritize prescription drug affordability and address issues that have affected constituents in the 51st District this legislative session. She is spearheading several bills to address utility-based emergencies in the district, addressing discrimination in insurance plans, and expanding access to breast cancer screening.

Professionally, Nabeela worked for a non-profit supporting a variety of their civic engagement efforts including voter mobilization, ending sexual assault on college campuses, and promoting gender equity.

Nabeela graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in Political Science and Business Administration, where she served as the president of a pro-bono consulting organization assisting local businesses and nonprofits.
